Warm Eggnog Hug in a Mug

Number of Servings: 8

Stamp that snow off your boots, hang up the parka and get into the kitchen to warm up the tastiest way we know how. This warm eggnog latte recipe is a little boozy with a bit of coffee liqueur, so it’ll warm you up that much faster.

Make it with 2% or whole milk to add to its indulgence. The little bit of espresso powder for taste shouldn’t keep you up all night. And a dash of nutmeg goes a long way toward tying together all these signature flavors.

Having eggnog at other times of the year is just weird. So, ‘tis the season to try a new way to enjoy it. Every family and friend group has at least a few eggnog lovers. Having it warm on a cold afternoon or evening makes for a lovely blend of flavor and comfort that might be their new favorite way of having it.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 6 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • ¾ cup coffee liqueur
  • 2 tablespoons instant espresso coffee powder or instant coffee powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Optional Toppings:
  • Whipped cream
  • Shaved chocolate

Directions

In large, heavy saucepan whisk together egg yolks and sugar. Whisk in milk, coffee liqueur, espresso powder and nutmeg. Cook, whisking frequently, over medium heat until mixture registers 175°F on instant read thermometer (mixture will just coat a metal spoon). Do not boil. Remove from heat.

Briskly whisk or use an immersion blender to froth milk mixture.

Ladle into eight 10-ounce mugs. If desired, top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate.
