This classy take on a chai latte is a wonderful way to ease into your evening. It’s not just a drink, it’s a dose of tranquility, a pause from the hustle and bustle, the perfect companion to a good book or a heartfelt conversation. The spicy, herbal and citrusy flavors of cardamom blend with vanilla and black tea for a delectable, frothy cuddle in a cup. Smash some cardamom, split a vanilla bean, boil it up in some low-fat milk and drop a bag of black tea into each mug. What you get is a nice calm experience and a more enjoyable teatime. This one is for you and an auntie while you’re catching up. Or if you know any royalty, it’s for them, too. Don’t forget to put your pinkie up as you sip.

Ingredients

  • 4 whole cardamom pods, smashed
  • ½ vanilla bean, split in half lengthwise
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) lowfat milk
  • 2 black tea bags (regular or decaf)

Directions

In small pot, stir together cardamom, vanilla bean and milk. Heat to boiling over medium heat; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 2 minutes.

Strain milk mixture through fine-mesh strainer; discard solids. Return mixture to pot; use immersion blender or milk frother to whip milk until foamy.

Divide frothed milk between mugs or tea cups; add 1 tea bag to each mug. Steep 2 minutes before serving.
